Selva di Val Gardena

3 days in the Dolomites

Selva di Val Gardena, a relaxing place to immerse yourself in nature. I spent a few days there and my heart remained. I will definitely want to go back in winter to try the fantastic slopes of Selva and the nearby ski areas.

Day 1

Departure from home around 8 in the morning. Stop in Canazei with a lunch break and then up the Sella pass. Arrival at the hotel at 3 pm for check-in. Short stop in the room and then exploration of the country.

Day 2

We wake up early in the morning and we head to Ortisei to take the cable car and access the Alpe di Siusi valley. The tour we have decided to do is very long and panoramic (I recommend doing it only if you are trained, otherwise it’s better to do it with the e-bike). In total they are about 20 Km. After the walk, a relaxing swim in the pool is a must.

Day 3

After the tiredness that we took in the 20 km of the day before we decided to rent an e-bike and visit the neighboring villages and then visit the Vallunga valley. Taking the cycle path you can quickly reach Santa Cristina di Val Gardena and Ortisei. For the first time I tried the e-bike and I recommend it to everyone (I’m thinking about it for a future purchase). It allows anyone to climb effortlessly.

Day 4

Fresh and rested we decided to go around the huts. The route we decided to take involved taking the cable car to Col Raiser. The route of about 10Km is of medium level and took us to the top of Mount Pic (this part of the route is quite challenging). For beginners, I recommend avoiding this climb and enjoying the relaxing tour of the huts, even if you will miss a spectacular view of the Val Gardena mountains. To end the day in the best way, a break in the pool. Being Tuesday we went to visit the evening craft market of Santa Cristina which takes place all summer from 19 to 22:30.

Day 5

Sadly on the way home, we stopped in Corvara. Compared to Canazei and Selva the buildings are much newer and more modern. A stop, however, never hurts 😄.

Advice

If you have a fair complexion like mine, bring sunscreen (it seems not but the sun is hot even in the mountains). For the various walks I recommend comfortable trekking shoes (you will have to do many kilometers on difficult terrain). I stayed overnight in the Antares hotel in Selva di Valgardena, a nice clean hotel with a swimming pool and not very expensive. In winter, in my opinion, it should be the Top considering that at 200m there is the cable car to the ski slopes.

We dined in different places every day (the links to tripadvisor):

  • Kronestube: Recommended for those who want a sandwich on the fly and do not want to spend too much.
  • Ristorante da Rino: Normal pizza and abundant first courses. Not too expensive.
  • La Tambra: Spectacular meat and burgers. The price is worth the candle.
  • Sal Feur: Normal dishes and pizzas, but super desserts 😄
